The Green Deal
For November's Green Drinks, we continue to explore the most topical climate issue here in Leeds, namely that winter's on its way... with this in mind, we welcome George Munson who will be telling us about the Green Deal, a major initiative from the Department for Energy and Climate Change.
George is the Energy and Climate Change Manager at Leeds City Council. With his team of six people, he is responsible for developing and delivering energy efficiency and renewable energy programmes for domestic properties across the city, affordable warmth initiatives and the city's Climate Change Strategy. Ultimately, they aim to reduce CO2 emissions from all sectors by 40% by 2020 (around 3% pa) and support the Government's target to eradicate fuel poverty by 2016. No small task!
Prior to joining Leeds, George worked in regional climate change policy and delivery for Yorkshire Forward and the Government Office for Yorkshire and the Humber, managed energy projects for a London borough and managed one of the Energy Saving Trust Energy Advice Centres.
George will outline the Government's new Green Deal programme, focussing on short and long term plans for Leeds. This will cover the recently announced £1.3m Green Deal Demonstrator and how you can access/promote the funds.
There will be the usual opportunities to network over a drink. We hope to see you there

NETWORKING: In addition to the panel, there will of course be the usual ‘Great Green Banter’ that we are renowned for both before and after the presentation, giving you plenty of time to network.
EVENT DETAILS: arrive & mingle from 6pm; speakers start around 7.15pm; conversation flowing until around 10. Feel free to pop in for a bit, or stay the whole evening - it's free & you only pay for your drinks.
